About weight loss treatments

  • Yes. On average, patients who take medications as part of a weight management plan lose 10 percent or more of their body weight.

  • You have probably heard of Ozempic. Other brand names include Wegovy and Rybelsus. These medications assist with appetite regulation.

Other medications that can be used for weight loss include Metformin, Orlistat, and Saxenda.

Your provider will help you find the right treatment based on your health history and goals.

  • Results vary from person to person and everyone's timeframe is different. Generally speaking, weight loss occurs within the first few months of using a weight loss medication. Your provider will also encourage healthy lifestyle changes like increasing physical activity, eating healthy foods and getting enough sleep.

  • Weight loss injections are considered safe to use. However, with all medications there are potential side effects involved. The most common side effects with these treatments are nausea and diarrhea. Other side effects can include dizziness, fatigue and headaches. Patients with a history of type 1 diabetes, pancreatitis and/or kidney disease should not use these medications.
